The Zoo Dive Site in

Wakatobi

For muck divers or macro lovers, The Zoo is the one dive site that should be on the list. The name is self-explanatory; when you dive here, it is as if you’re entering a zoo filled with different species of marine life.

Many critters are hidden or camouflaged among the colorful coral reefs, such as mushroom and ghost pipefish, leaf fish, frogfish, mantis shrimp, and pygmy seahorses. The Zoo is even more fascinating after the sun sets, perfect for those who prefer to do the night dive.

Cuttlefish, lionfish (look for the alien-like twinspot lionfish), bobtail squid, octopus, pink hairy squat lobsters, and flatworms are all making an appearance once the day turns into night, emerging from the staghorn corals. Take advantage of the opportunity to see the male mandarin fish doing the mating dance to attract the females, as this ritual only happens once the dark arrives.
