MAHODAYA, formerly known as “Amanikan,” stands as a genuine phinisi vessel meticulously crafted by skilled wooden boat builders from eastern Indonesia. Recognized by UNESCO as “Masterpieces” of traditional Indonesian culture and heritage, phinisi boats showcase the exceptional artistry of these master craftsmen.
The refined interiors of Mahodaya were designed by the late Jaya Ibrahim, a renowned architect behind some of the world’s premier properties, including Amanresorts, The Dharmawangsa Hotel in Jakarta, and the Legian in Bali. The vessel’s renovations and enhancements were carried out by the original design team and woodworkers, maintaining a profound connection to the ship.
Originally commissioned by Adrian Zecha, the visionary behind Regent Hotels, Rafael Hotels, Aman resorts, and the notable Azerai Resorts, Mahodaya was constructed in 2009. Operating initially under the name “Amanikan,” the vessel has traversed the Indonesian archipelago, hosting numerous distinguished international visitors.
Now operating independently, the vessel has been rechristened Mahodaya, a Sanskrit term signifying “great fortune or prosperity.” In 2019, substantial upgrades were made, incorporating a cutting-edge Blue Sky satellite tracking system and a new Iridium on-board communications infrastructure, providing enterprise-grade internet via the Iridium satellite network. Navigation and radar systems have also been updated with the latest equipment.
Maintaining its five-star guest facilities and onboard services, Mahodaya’s original crew is committed to ensuring that your cruise experience is a tropical enchantment and discovery. They look forward to making your journey as memorable as the remarkable destinations you will explore.
