Gunung Api Dive Site in

Wetar

Possibly one of the famous diving spots in Wetar, Gunung Api is a stratovolcano isolated from the main island. This volcano’s total height is around 5000 meters, with only 300 meters of its tip visible above the water.
This dive site is unusual since the main attraction here is the sea snakes. Thousands of sea snakes roam freely in this area, and though known as non- aggressive unless provoked, it is better to keep your distance when you encounter them.

Aside from sea snakes, Gunung Api is also adorned with hard and soft corals, including black corals, fire corals, sea fans, and sponges. Bumphead parrotfish, dogtooth tuna, fusiliers, surgeonfish, octopus, barracudas, and turtles are in great numbers here.

If you’re around Gunung Api during the October-November period, there is a chance to see the schooling of hammerhead sharks.
