Major battles during the Second World War left wrecks scattered around Cenderawasih Bay. There are around 20 shipwrecks, though only six can be identified. One of those shipwrecks is the impressive Shinwa Maru, a 120-meter-long Japanese cargo ship in the Doreri Bay that rests at a depth of 34 meters. Some artifacts like sake bottles, kitchenware, small tanks, and kitchenware can still be found inside the wreckage.

Some other shipwrecks found here are Pasir Putih, a type of patrol boat, Pillbox Wreck, a commercial cargo ship, and Cross Wreck.
