Namatota Dive Site in

Kaimana

Namatota is one of the islands in Kaimana, and the main attraction here is the whale sharks. These gentle giants feed off the small fish off the bagans or the traditional fishing platform made of bamboo. The local people believe that giving the whale sharks a portion of their catch brings good luck while they are fishing.

While the appearance of the whale sharks is certainly a highlight, there are other marine species to see around Namatota. Mercy’s garden eels, Triton epaulette sharks, and Nursalim flash wrasse are three endemic species that can be spotted here. Other species include narrow-lined puffer fish, damselfish, and frogfish. Bryde’s whales, manta rays, and sea turtles are also part of the marine species that can be seen around Namatota.
