Patinti Strait Dive Site in

Halmahera

The strait that divides Bacan and Halmahera is the perfect spot to encounter reef sharks and other pelagic fish like tuna, barracudas, and mackerels. Some small islands (Sali, Kusu, and Proco) scattered around the strait helped create an excellent environment for coral growth.

The dive sites in this region are somehow sheltered by the small islands, which means the soft corals, hard corals, sea fans, and sponges in various colors are protected against strong currents. In turn, critters like different species of shrimps, crabs, pygmy seahorses, and nudibranchs find the perfect home between those corals.

Night dive in this area is recommended, especially to witness the endemic Halmahera walking sharks walk with their pectoral and pelvic fins. It’s definitely an opportunity not to be missed!
