Fancy for dugong sightings while exploring Bangka? Peter’s Sponge is the spot to be. Located on the eastern part of the Bangka Islands, this dive site is aimed at only those who want to see dugongs but also macro enthusiasts.
Dugongs are attracted to seagrass since this is their diet, and they migrate based on food availability. The best times to spot these giant herbivores are during sunrise and sunset, and there is no guarantee they will show up, as dugongs are known to be shy.
But dugongs are not the only animal that can be observed here. Critters like cuttlefish, Ambon scorpionfish, and ghost pipefish mostly live in the small coral bommies and giant anemones.
