Contrary to its name, no sardine species is found on this site. Instead, black coral bushes, big Gorgonian fans, colorful soft corals, elephant ear sponges, and coral bommies are abundant here. Fusiliers, surgeonfish, rainbow runners, tuna, sweetlips, and bannerfish sometimes make the “fish thunder,” which refers to the booming sound of the rapid movement of fish across the open water.
Large predators like black tip, white tip, and sometimes, the grey shark make an appearance, and the rare wobbegong shark can be seen camouflaging like a carpet on the sea floor.
