Satonda Island Dive Site in

Sumbawa

One of the marvelous spots for a night dive, Satonda Island, formed when a volcanic cone collapsed and reportedly a tsunami hit, filling the caldera with water. Located in a remote area north of central Sumbawa, the kind of marine life you will encounter here is astonishing.

Clown frogfish, also known as Warty frogfish, can be seen with its bright yellow and dark red patches. Pay close attention, as this fish is sometimes mistaken for a sponge. Lionfish are abundant here, but be very careful as they have adapted to the diver’s torch to hunt smaller fish!

Some other species found in the area are crinoids, anglerfish, razorfish, flatworms, arrow crabs, boxer shrimps, as well as soft corals that illuminate under the torch light.
