The Crack Dive Site in

Maumere

During the earthquake and tsunami in 1992, Babi Island was the most affected region, and the government forbade the island from being inhabited since then. But the underwater paradise here is still thriving.

The Crack is possibly the famous dive site on Babi Island. A crack in the reef around 15 meters deep from the earthquake forms a small cave. Its width is only 70 centimeters, making it impossible to swim in. Various hard and soft corals, sponges, coral bushes, especially Gorgonian fans and table corals, are scattered in the area.

Reef sharks, turtles, tunas, marbled electric rays, and giant trevallies can be seen passing through the waters. Leaf scorpionfish, nudibranchs, moray eels, flatworms, pygmy seahorses, frogfishes, shrimps, and crabs are regularly spotted here.
